Provenance Made by Elizabeth Ashcraft in 1842. The sampler was donated to the Archdiocese of Louisville by an unknown donor in the distant past.
Description The sampler has five rows of alphabets and numerals separated by minimally decorative crossbands. The signature reads:
Elizabeth Ashcraft
Loretto. May. 3. A. D. 1842
The initials "A L" are also seen in the left lower aspect of the sampler. Please see the inverse of the verso and the verso in the ancillary images.
As of yet, AKS can find no history relating to the sampler maker.
