Provenance Made by Caroline H. Parr in 1829. Later acquired by the Leslie B. Durst Collection.
Description The sampler has a lovely circumferential vine and flower trim surrounding a diamond filled, near square border which in turn surrounds a lyre with adjacent motifs and flowers. Below this are four rows of alphabets and numbers separated by not overly decorative crossbands. Below the square in the midline is the signature:

According to antique samplers.org, there are records of a Caroline Parr, baptized 20 August 1817 in Kentucky to Johnathan Edmond Parr III and Martha Pasty Frans. Siblings were John (1804), Madison (1810), John Henry (1820), Tazewell (1826), Franklin (1828) and William Taylor (1830).
Caroline married farmer Charles Marshall Taylor August 1835 in Meade, Kentucky. The Taylor children born in Kentucky were John Edward (1836), James Taswell (1839), Martha (1840) and Sarah Ann (1843). There are additional children attributed to the couple, all born in Missouri: Simon (1845), Samuel (1847), Nancy (1850). The 1850 US census records lists Caroline and her family living in Marshall, Platte County, Missouri.
Caroline does not appear in the 1860 census; records indicate she died of the flux in August 1859 in Meade, Kentucky.
The birth records are from an online family tree and have yet to be verified. The marriage and census records have been verified.
