Work’d her Sampler In her 14th year
Born in Shelbyville, Kentucky, in 1811, Amacettee Younger (1811-1826) was the daughter of John W. Younger (1773-1858) and Mary Agatha Dearing (1777-1855). Amacettee completed her sampler in 1825 at the age of 14 years old, only one year before her death in November 1826. At the time she worked her sampler, there were several schools for young girls in Shelbyville, including the Shelbyville Academy, established in 1798, and Science Hill Female Academy, which began in 1825.
