Description
A very early Kentucky sampler, this piece was worked by Elizabeth Huston (b.1795, d. 1828) of Lexington. It records her immediate family and also notes that it was made at Ann Walsh's school in Lexington. Ann Walsh advertised her school for young ladies as early as 1793. According to her advertisements, she variously taught her students spelling, reading, arithmetic, drawing, and needlework.
