Description Red, navy blue, green, brown/tan and ivory stitches are in five rows of alphabets and numbers, each row separated by a band of cross stitch in colorful and decorative motifs. A large red multi-story house at lower center is flanked by urns of flowers and a plain cross stitched border. Most colors remain bright, with some fading to tans and greens, a 1/4" area of ground loss at center possibly affecting the W in "While" and some small losses to various navy blue lettering in the verse with overall ground discoloration.
Verse reads:
"O God permit thy gracious name to stand as the first ephod (sic for "effort") of a female hand
And while her hand doth on the canvass move engage her youthful heart to seek thy love".

The period, wide ogee, molded, stained, wood frame with original surface has ½ inch spots of veneer loss at each lower corner with a gilt rabbet edge and a framing label verso for The Art Shop, Louisville, KY.
Eliza Ann Pearson was born on November 11, 1822, in Nelson County, Kentucky. Her father, John (1786-1870), was thirty-six years old and her mother, Charlotte Anderson Pearson (1792-1860), was thirty. She had seven siblings including twins Sarah (1825-?) and John R. (1825-1887), Columba (1826-1855), Eliza (1828-?), Eugenia (1831-?), Frances (1834-?) and James (1837-?).
Eliza Ann Pearson married William "Billy" Franklin (1822-1904) in either 1845 or January 9, 1852 in Hardin County, Kentucky. They had two children, Benjamin Boyd "Ben" (1852-1933) and William S. (1856-1860).
Eliza Ann Pearson died on November 28, 1912, age ninety, in Grayson County, Kentucky.
