Provenance Sold by Jeffrey S. Evans & Associates Auctions, Nov 14, 2015, lot #436, from a Tennessee estate to Private Collector #13.
Description There are seven alphabet and numeral rows over a signature line:
"Mary Pate. Hardinsburg. June 5, 1832" and
"Martha Ann Haynes" located above (presumably Mary's instructress).
There is a bold flower-and-vine border with good condition overall, some fading to the stitches and overall even toning to the ground.
Mary Ann Pate, born June 28, 1817 in Breckinridge County, Kentucky, was the daughter of Edward Pate and Mary Crawford. She married Richard P. Kincheloe, and the couple appears to have remained in Kentucky. Mary Pate died in 1898 and is buried in Kincheloe's Bluff Cemetery in Central City, Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.
