Description
The sampler has four rows of alphabets with the date “1843" or "1848” at the end of the second row. (Whether the last number is a "3", or an "8" with stitches missing, is uncertain. Due to the spacing and the appearance of the number, AKS suggest that wool is absent is from the left side of an "8" and the date is 1848, but this is unclear.) The rows of alphabets are separated by simple crossbands. In the lower corners flowers and in the lower field is the signature:
Henriette . Simm . is . my . name . Kentucky . is . my.
station . Louisville . is . my . dwelling . place .
and . CHRIST . IS . MY . SALVATION .
