Description
This is an incomplete sampler by an unknown sampler maker. It has an incomplete central verse of only the word "Remember" with the remainder of the central field obviously unfinished. This central field is bordered above and on its sides by large flowers and leaves while below the predominately blank central field there is a large five bay over four bay home with a central door. To the left of the home are trees, the verse, "Let God be your guide", the initials "CBM" and a tree and a vine adorned Christian cross adorning a lawn which extends to the right of the house where there is an inscription "Tomb of Washington", a scene perhaps representing a gravesite/tomb, trees and a decorative butterfly.

Accompanying the sampler is a handwritten note which reads:
"Purchased from dealer Don Gary 1973 of Nashville who bought it in Kentucky. Story is that the sister started it when her brother went off to fight in the civil war. When she received word of his death she stopped work on it and put it away in a drawer---where it stayed all these years. The house was their home in Calhoun, Kentucky. Carole Wahler"

Otherwise little is currently known about the sampler. AKS is continuing research on the initials "CBM", the Calhoun,(McLean County), Kentucky attribution, and the poignant note attributed to Carole Wahler (see ancillary images).
